Frequently Asked Questions

BEAUTY BLOCK NAIL FAQ
Why are some of the nail prices different, depending on the nail tech?

The nail techs’ prices reflect not only the cost of materials and time but also the dedication and hard work they have poured into their craft. Some of our nail techs have been in the industry longer, so they have more experience. Beauty Block invests in high-quality products, and many of our nail techs spend extensive time on continuing education, often dedicating countless hours to perfecting their skills. Therefore, their prices may reflect their skill level and time spent in the industry.

What is luminary gel?

Luminary gel is a multi-flex gel that is stronger and more durable than a traditional gel manicure. This product adds strength to natural nails without making them too heavy or thick. With proper care, it can last 3-4 weeks. You can still enjoy all the fun colors and designs with this service, just like any other nail service. When you come in for a redo, we will only remove the polish color, leaving a layer of base on your nail to ensure we aren’t filing your natural nails thin, which prevents damage. Then, we fill in the grow-out, restructure the nail, and your manicure is ready to go for the next month!

Why is there a heat spike with Luminary?

When nail products are curing, the molecules in the products move at a rapid pace, causing friction which then results in a heat spike. Clients can take their hands out of the LED light when they feel this heat spike and then put their hands back in once it goes down. The heat spike is not causing harm or burning the natural nail. Some people don’t feel this spike at all; it depends on the person.

What nail product is best for my nails?

There are many options when choosing a nail product. If you have soft or thin natural nails, we recommend gel because the product will be able to move with your natural nails as they grow. If you’ve experienced lifting with acrylics, gel may be a better option. For those with hard, thick natural nails, acrylics might be a good choice. Your nail tech can always recommend the best product for you!

BEAUTY BLOCK WAXING FAQ
I am new to waxing, and I have an event coming up. How should I plan my waxing?

We recommend planning at least 2 visits or 8 weeks before your event so your skin and hair growth cycles have time to adjust!

How long does my hair need to be?

You’ll get the best results if you let the hair grow out to about ¼ inch, which is usually 2 to 2.5 weeks for most people!

Can I wax if I am on my period?

We can absolutely wax you if it’s that time of the month! Just wear a tampon, and the wax professional will take it from there.

It’s my first time, how bad does it hurt?

This can depend on your tolerance for discomfort. Most people agree that it’s less uncomfortable than they expected. To help with the pain, you can take ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment and avoid caffeine.

Can I wax if I am on medication?

If you are taking Accutane, you cannot wax any part of your body. If you recently stopped taking it, you need to wait six months after your last dose before getting waxed. If you’re on any other topical exfoliants (like tretinoin or Retin-A), be sure to tell your esthetician.

How often do I have to get waxed?

Everyone is a little different depending on hair growth, but we recommend waxing every 3-6 weeks to keep it as painless as possible. Keeping up on a regular schedule will ensure that your hair growth cycles stay consistent, which means you’ll stay smoother for longer.
